According to sources, the two fighter jets that arrived in India were earlier part of the fleet of French Fight Jets. The two aircraft were acquired by the Indian Air Force as part of a program to build about 50 aircraft for the Miraj fighter fleet.

The Indian Air Force has received 51 Mirage aircraft through various batches, formed three squadrons, all based at Gwalior Air Force Station. The Mirage has been in service since the 1980s and the fighter jet played a key role in everything from the Kargil war to the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, where it bombed a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist camp in Pakistan. The Mirage-2000 is known to be a single-seater fighter jet. The aircraft has a range of 2495 kilometers per hour.
