Fact Checkers wrote that displaying fact-finding information is more effective than removing content. Investigators have also called on YouTube to take action against repeat offenders and to step up efforts against misinformation in languages other than English.
In a statement, YouTube spokeswoman Elena Hernandez said the company has invested heavily in all countries where people create content. He described the fact-finding as an important tool. Also said this is a small piece of a larger puzzle.
In the case of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting last month ordered the blocking of 20 YouTube channels and two websites for spreading anti-India propaganda and fake news. Two orders have been issued by the ministry. In one of them, YouTube was instructed to block 20 channels and the rest to block websites. Content was posted on these YouTube channels on issues like farmers’ protest, citizenship (amendment) law. At the same time, they were trying to incite minorities against the central government.
