Myanmar was the No. 1 country in terms of Internet shutdowns. The Internet was down for 12,238 hours and affected 22 million users. The cost of shutting down the Internet in Myanmar was $ 2.8 billion (approximately Rs. 20,700 crore). Nigeria is second on the list. There, the Internet shutdown affected 104.4 million people. This includes a cost of 1.5 billion (approximately Rs. 11,100 crore).
India ranks after Myanmar and Nigeria. That is the third in the world. Last year, 1,157 hours of internet was down in the country. It had a full Internet blackout of 317.5 hours, with 840 hours of bandwidth throttling. In other words, only 2G services were provided during this period.
