New Delhi, November 243: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh, who was declared a fugitive by a Mumbai court, has come forward several months later. Former Commissioner of Police Parambir Singh on Wednesday said that he was in Chandigarh and would be coming to Mumbai soon. The IPS officer, who is facing several cases of extortion in Maharashtra, told news channels that he was in Chandigarh. I will join the investigation. I will be coming to Mumbai soon.
When the journalist asked Parambir Singh if he would surrender (before the police or the court), he said that he had not yet decided on the next course of action. Parambir Singh appeared on the social media app ‘Telegram’ on Wednesday evening, but later deleted his account. Singh has not returned to work since May this year following the transfer of Mumbai Police Commissioner and allegations of corruption against the then Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
Earlier, his lawyer had told the Supreme Court that he was in the country and ready to co-operate in the investigation. His lawyer in the Supreme Court said he was hiding because his life was in danger from the Mumbai police. He said he was ready to appear in CBI or court within 48 hours. The Supreme Court reprimanded Parambir Singh’s counsel for this argument.
The court has now stayed the arrest of Parambir Singh and directed him to co-operate in the investigation of the entire case. His counsel in the court said that Parambir Singh was being implicated in the entire case. The same officer whom he had punished for corruption has now been made a complainant. So far 6 cases have been registered against him.
